Here's your Mother's Day brunch menu! 💐

Hi Reader,

Mother's Day is a week from today, and my Mom's Day request for my family this year is super simple: let me putter around in the garden all day, and please, for the love of all things holy, do not ask me to make a single decision about anything. The decision fatigue is real, friends.

So consider this your Mother's Day gift from me: the menu is already decided a week in advance. Whether you're cooking for the mom in your life or forwarding this email directly to someone who loves you and owns a skillet, here's a spread that's special enough to feel like a celebration without requiring a culinary degree or a second mortgage. Happy Mother's Day! 💐

Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict
Brunch royalty, and it's way less scary to make than you think.

This is the dish that makes people feel genuinely spoiled. Silky smoked salmon, a perfectly poached egg, and buttery homemade hollandaise piled on a toasted English muffin. I know "homemade hollandaise" sounds like something reserved for culinary school final exams, but once you do it, you'll wonder what you were so afraid of. Perfect for when you want brunch to feel like a real occasion.

French Toast Breakfast Bake
Prep it the night before. Be a hero in the morning.

This is my secret weapon for feeding a crowd without breaking a sweat. Tear up some bread, make the custard, toss it all together with a buttery streusel on top, and stick it in the fridge. The next morning, just pop it in the oven. It comes out soft and rich with just a hint of citrus and spice. While it bakes, you can be in the garden. Or in your pajamas. I don't judge.

Round out your Mother's Day brunch with these:

Hi Reader, Between the garden, the woods, and our local orchard, this has been one of those weeks where every surface in my house has something fermenting, canning, or cooling on it. Let's catch up. From My Kitchen Bubbling away on in The Fermentation Station. 🫙 I finally pulled my fermenting gear back out this week, and I forgot how much I love the whole process. It's equal parts science experiment and kitchen witchcraft. As far as veggie ferments go, I've got salsa, dill pickles, and garlic...

Hi Reader, It's been a minute since I checked in. I hope you'll forgive me because May was a lot. Like, a lot a lot. We packed in a road trip to Vermont, the Indy 500, the last day of school, and some serious garden work—and then my body promptly sent me the bill. I've been in a major chronic illness flare and boyyyy have I spent a lot of time horizontal, which has given me plenty of time to catch up on TV and reread my favorite books. Here's what the last few weeks actually looked like:...

Hi Reader, Can I be honest with you for a second? Life has been a lot lately. The kind of a lot where standing over a hot stove for an hour sounds like an actual punishment. Thank goodness it is grill season. Throw it on, walk away (especially if you have a Bluetooth meat thermometer), come back to dinner. No mountain of dishes. No sweating in a hot kitchen. Just food that tastes like summer and a sink that's basically empty. This week's entire menu is grill-friendly (either outdoor or use an...
